Lesley's Pilates Journey

I have been in love with dance since I was three years old. Growing up in Illinois, I skipped sleepovers for dance class, and my dedicated mom drove me all the way to the Center of Creative Arts in St. Louis to get the best training. I also studied at Interlochen Arts Academy, Rotterdamse Dansacademie, and SUNY Purchase, where I received my B.F.A.

For 15 years I have danced professionally as a member of The Mark Morris Dance Group, performing in theaters throughout the world. Along the way, I discovered Pilates as a means to strengthen my dancing, rehabilitate injuries, and feel more confident and embodied.

I have taught dance for 15 years to all kinds of movers: kids, teens, beginners, professionals, seniors, and as part of the Dance for Parkinson’s program at Mark Morris Dance Center. I received my Pilates  mat and equipment certification through the Kane School of Core Integration, and I completed a 200-hour yoga training and Restorative/Prenatal certification with Yoga Vida.

As  a new mother to my one-year-old son Ellis, I have a deepened appreciation for the power of movement. Throughout my pregnancy, Pilates and yoga kept me feeling strong and ready for childbirth. They were a huge factor in my quick postpartum recovery and return to dance. I am passionate about sharing these healing practices with my students.
